Go, Wendy, Go!

Wow. That's all I have to say.  Channel 46 lead investigative reporter, Wendy Saltzman uncovered a pile of family members of current or former board members and administrators working in DeKalb schools. Not only are they working - they have the cake jobs!

Check out the promo for tonight's report by clicking here. Hopefully, they will add the actual report soon. It all went by so fast, I'll have to watch it again for it to sink in.

UPDATE: The video is up and can be viewed by clicking here.

Below is a quote from the text of the article - giving an overview of some of the employees highlighted in Wendy's report:
Check out these members of DeKalb's so-called “Friend's-and-Family” plan who we uncovered:
Former superintendent Robert Freeman has two sons and a daughter in law who all worked for the school system. His son Robin was charged with a misdemeanor but was hired while his father was there.
And records we uncovered show Tim Freemen, now an Assistant Superintendent, got his recommendation from who else? His dad, who was the acting Superintendent. Robert Freeman jokingly said he couldn't support the reference for his son.
Former Deputy Superintendent Frankie Callaway has a daughter, husband and a son who all work for the DeKalb County Schools.
And Frances Edwards, a former school board member, has a son who is now employed in the Information Services Department, a daughter who was one of the only members of the Media Relations office not to lose her high paying job, and son-in-law with no experience in transportation who is running that department.
"I am sick and tired of you and all of these people making an issue about my child," Roberts said, referencing these other administrator's children.
So she expanded her hit list, and took a shot at School Board Chairman Thomas Bowen.
"Tom Bowen has in-laws whose worked in the school system," Roberts told us.

Schoolnet is a Canadian company, I believe.

DCSS officials have a very difficult time admitting anything is wrong.

Here is the link to WSB's latest report featuring Ramona Tyson. She says she's hearing that parents want transparency and communication. She plans to set up community forums for people to be a part of the discussions before decisions are made.

DeKalb School's Superintendent Works to Restore District's Image

Personally, I think we have much more than just an "image" problem. Firing a few unethical administrators is a start, but Tyson has a lot more work to do to get the DCSS house in order.

COMMUNITY FORUMS! What a joke, our last Super, Clew-less did these but there was a problem. Decisions had already been made in private meetings. The community forums were a way to lie to the constituents that the BOE and the Clew-less cabinet, who remain intact today, cared!

I remember when we had the community meeting about the closing of Nancy Creek. Fran Millar, our State Rep. back then was in the back of the room, he told me and my wife before the meeting started that closing Nancy Creek "was a done deal!" I asked him what the hell were we doing there then. He said it was all for show!

After that meeting, Bowen told us that they had to be equitable since they were closing 3 schools in south DeKalb. Now we have Montgomery with over 625 students, Huntley Hills with 4 maybe 5 trailers and over 500 attending. The BOE and Robert Moseley never talked with DeKalb Planning, they used a fraudulent demographers report and refused to listen to the parents who proved the area was growing very fast!

That's all water under the bridge, however, Community Forums would be a good idea if the BOE actually listened and used the ideas of the community.

These people do not hear us! The Guilroy's, Edwards, Thedfords will stay on after stealing thousands of dollars meant to educate our kids. Ms. Tyson, just resign so we can move on, Moseley, Turk, Thompson, Mitchell-Mayfield, Ramsey and the rest should just resign too! Until wholesale changes are made it will be business as usual at the most corrupt school system in the country.

Cere,
Would you please start a blog about the opening of school. Please assure that people can post and that they will be safe. What is read at Board Meetings and what is lived in schools by teachers, staff and even principals is not the same.
Example:
Ask for the schools that do not have air.
Ask about the transportation issues.
Ask about safety.
Everything that happens now is the fault of the schools.
Student performance does need to be improved. But, we need the input from the people in the schools to do that. Yes, we are being asked to do a tremendous amount, but the princiapls have only had a 2 hour training and they are now suppose to train and implement all the new plans.
Please get feedback from the schools.
