Funny or Die - Education Cuts

If you are not familiar with the "Funny or Die" web site, it is a social media site dedicated to helping us all laugh. Today, a DCSS teacher shared with me the following video on the site. I can't decide if it is funny or sad. I suppose it is a good piece of satire but I am equally sure it is not funny in the end.

Of all audiences, I thought our blog's would appreciate it:

  1. I'd love to see things like this on TV here in GA. I bet that might actually spark some people into real action.

  2. Thank you for this. We are not very far from this now. Our state makes it very clear that education is not a priority. This state, which continues to lag behind the nation in education, must look at other ways to fund education. When NCR moved its head quarters from Dayton to Atlanta, the CEO remained in New York. He had his children in school there and did not want to transfer them to Georgia. Who can blame him ?Consider a one penny sales tax to fund education.Cut out some of these useless government programs. Send the resources to the schools. One or two additional students per class does make a difference. I sincerly wish that the people who are so comfortable cutting resources to a school had to spend a month in a school in any role. They would probably run out screaming after the first day. Not because our children are bad, but because of all the changelles that one must face in the school. If we do not prepare this current generation properly, we all suffer. The fight cannot be between North and South or magnet, special ed or traditional schools. It must be for all students and school based staff members. Yes, every educator that I know is grateful to have a job. Being grateful does not take the place of a person. We are talking about young people betweem the ages of 5 and 18, They still need attention, monitoring, education, sports and guidance. One person can only be in one place at a time. Our schools need HELP. DeKalb and every system must turn all attention and positive energy to the schools. We do not need any more mirco managers or test or unfunded mandates.

  3. I shared this video. I think it is a little too close to reality. It is really sad that Georgia schools are in this situation.

  4. View from another state. Might we get this vocal?:

Parents angry about Hawaii's shortest-in-the-nation school year aren't giving up on a weeklong sit-in at Gov. Linda Lingle's office despite two arrests and more than a dozen trespassing tickets.
    ....

The frustrated parents are hoping to prod the Republican governor into making a more public push to end furloughs.
    ....

"We know that she holds the power of the purse. She's the one who can release emergency funds to get rid of the furloughs for this school year," said Jill Tao, 45, who has two sons in public school. "We're parents. We're tired of having our children furloughed. We want it done now."

The only state with a statewide school district, Hawaii has been known for its less-than-stellar performance on education. The furloughs have only made the situation worse, forcing parents to take days off from work or scramble to find other activities to keep their children educated or entertained.
